It is with mixed emotions that Emmaus Worldwide announces the retirement of Jim Fleming from the role of International Coordinator. With their love for the Lord and the Emmaus courses, Jim and Sharon have touched the lives of thousands associated with the Emmaus Worldwide ministry. Jim assumed the newly created role of International Coordinator in 2003 while serving as a missionary in Colombia. Five years later, Jim and Sharon relocated to Dubuque, IA, home of Emmaus Worldwide. International distribution was at about 400,000 in 2003 and has grown to 1.3 million. This growth happened because of the relationship Jim nurtured with ZAM - Central African Mission in Germany. ZAM now oversees 45 countries and distributes 80% of the courses. ZAM is working to digitize Emmaus courses, the fast-growing next phase, for Emmaus globally, to allow greater access to the courses. Jim has traveled extensively, visiting Emmaus workers and schools on all six continents. Total miles traveled are unknown, but he does have 127 country flags on the walls of his office! Jim regularly organized regional conferences for Emmaus countries that proved to be a great benefit and encouragement to the teams. Jim and Sharon will be transitioning to Christian Missions In Many Lands (CMML) in the role of missionary care with full-time responsibilities beginning July 1, 2024.

The Lord always provides! Emmaus Worldwide announces the appointment of Marlon Govender as International Coordinator effective January 1, 2024. Marlon has faithfully served Emmaus Worldwide since 2008 and is well-versed in all aspects of the ministry. Since 2010, he has served as Regional Coordinator for Southern Africa. He has practical experience in course digitization, printing, mentoring, database management, reporting, and running a strong prison ministry. Marlon is a visionary with a heart to see Emmaus's digital courses expand. Under his supervision, the English App has grown from 20 to 65 courses. Marlon joins us with a heart full of love for the Lord and a vision to take Emmaus into the next era of growth around the world, through the borderless tool of the internet. This will allow us to get into every country of the world with our Bible-teaching materials, even those whose physical borders are closed. A transitionary period during the first six months of 2024 will provide the opportunity for Jim to mentor Marlon. The two will travel together to visit team members and offices.
