EMMAUS PRISON MINISTRY
ENROLL AN INMATE
If you have a loved one in a jail or prison, you can enroll them into our correspondence school at no cost to you. Local jail and prison ministries handle the costs and logistics of getting courses to inmates.
CONNECT WITH A LOCAL MINISTRY
If you would like to volunteer your time with an established jail or prison ministry, our Prison Ministry Coordinator or our online directory will help you find a ministry near your home. Prison Coordinator's are in need of volunteers to grade, answer faith-based questions, and write letters to inmates, encouraging them in their faith.
START A LOCAL MINISTRY
We provide ideas and resources to help individuals or a church organize a new local jail ministry utilizing Emmaus courses. Contact us for more information.
EMMAUS PRISON MINISTRY
Emmaus Worldwide provides correspondence Bible study courses to inmates in prisons and local jails. Inmates study in their own prison cell. As courses are completed, they are returned for grading and responses to faith-based questions. Prison ministry staff and volunteers return graded courses to inmates with notes of encouragement. We partner with local ministries and chaplains to reach hundreds of thousands of inmates each year.
WHAT IS THE NEED?
1 in every 32 adults in the US are in prison or on probation.
Emmaus Worldwide sends out nearly 400,000 courses per year for prison use, but there are over 1.5 million people in US prisons (as of year end 2016 according to www.bjs.gov).
MESSAGE FROM A PRISON MINISTRY DIRECTOR
“I do not know of any more fertile ground for the gospel in all of the United States than our jails and prisons . . .
. . . I often ask them, ‘How many of you would have given me two minutes of your time when you were out on the streets?’ The answer, almost always, is none of them. . .
. . . It is a rare week that we don’t find at least one prisoner reporting that he or she has been born again as a result of the Emmaus courses. . .”
– (North Carolina Prison Ministry Director)
“Recently other inmates who aren’t very knowledgeable of the Bible have come up to me asking me questions about certain aspects of God’s Word. Thanks to these correspondence courses I’ve been able to help them find the answers to those questions in the Word. Praise God!”
"Men Who Met the Master has really helped me during a tremendous struggle in my life. Being incarcerated allows me plenty of opportunity to show my respects to God by being faithful and obedient around other men and women that have been looked down on. I anxiously await the next course.”
“Thank you so much for grading this and sending my results back. I am growing and growing every day with God! I was 12 years old when I got saved. When I was 18 years old I dedicated my life to Christ. Then I got into the wrong crowd and messed up my life. I am now fixing my life! I really love the verse John 3:16. The very best verse ever! The heavenly Father is with me forever and always. I have faith and Christ in my heart.”
